I had few Bananas sitting on the counter starring at me and reminding its going to go bad soon. Most often I caramelize and freeze for future use in sweets or desserts. While caramelizing, I decided to make the milkshake with them. I must say this is the best milkshakes I have had to date with the caramelized bananas adding a great flavor.
Summer is fast approaching here in Dallas but right now it is warm during the day and cooler in the nights~ perfect days to have a nice chilled milkshake.
Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 5 min
Serves: 3
Level: Beginner
Ingredients:
  1. 6 bananas
  2. 1 cup brown sugar
  3. 1 teaspoon butter
  4. 1½ cups milk
  5. 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream (optional)

Procedure:
Place butter in a medium skillet and bring the heat to medium heat. Arrange the bananas as shown.
Add the brown sugar and gently mix. Lower the heat to medium-low

Cook this for about 5 minutes until it’s done or when the bananas are turn soft.

Remove the bananas and place them in a bowl in a larger bowl with an ice bath to cool down. Reserve the sauce in the pan.

Once the bananas has cooled, blend the milk and ice cream together until well blended. Then add the caramelized bananas and blend. If you think the shake is too thick for your liking, you can add some milk, a little at a time.
Pour into glasses and chill. Drizzle more sauce on top while serving.
TIPS: I have used brown sugar but regular sugar can be used too. Adjust the sugar according to your taste and sweetness of the Bananas.
Vanilla ice cream is optional and I have not used them in my milkshake.
Lactose free milk can be substituted and reduce sugar a little bit since the lactose free milk is a little sweeter than the regular milk.
