Kothamalli Paruppu

Cilantro/Kothamalli is one of my favorite herbs used extensively in my cooking for its aromatic flavor it imparts to any dish.
Kothamalli Paruppu/ Cilantro Dhal is flavorful dish with an extra dose of cilantro and other spices ~My contribution to Jhiva for Cilantro. @ Cilantro

List of ingredients:

1. 1/2 cup thuvaram paruppu/thur dhal
2. 1 cup finely chopped tomatoes
3. 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
4. 2 to 3 pods garlic finely chopped
   
5. 1 cup chopped cilantro
6. 1 teaspoon finely chopped green chillies
   
7. salt to taste
   

For thallipu/seasoning:

1. ½ teaspoon cumin
2. ½ teaspoon mustard
   
3. 3 to 4 red chillies broken
4. a pinch asafoetida
   

Procedure:

1. Cook the thuvaram paruppu/thur dhal with 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Wash, clean and chop Cilantro.
2. Heat a tablespoon of oil a kadai/pan and add the seasoning in the order listed. Now add the onions, garlic and green chillies.
3. When the onions turn soft add the tomatoes. When the mixture turns to a thick gravy and the oil starts to separate, add the cooked thuvaram paruppu/thur dhal. Finally add Cilantro, salt and mix well.
   

Serve with Rice Or Chappati.
