Cranberry Vadu~Pickled Cuties- My contribution to Click- `RED` Photo Event at "Jugalbandi"

I love the taste and versatility of the cranberries~they can be used to make desserts as well as savories.
My obsession for cranberries has resulted in Cranberry Rice, Cranberry Thokku/Pachadi and Cranberry vadu recipe is a variation of Mango Vadu~ a southie`s all time favorite made with tender mangoes. I used cranberries instead and the taste was an absolute delight. Thayir Sadham/curd rice and cranberry vadu is a great combination for all pickle lovers.

List of ingredients :
  1. 4 cups Cranberries
  2. 15 red chillies
  3. 1 tablespoon mustard
  4. ½ teaspoon turmeric
  5. ¼ cup salt
Procedure:
  1. Using mortar and pastel, give a pat on the cranberries just to open them up.
  2. Mix in the turmeric and salt. Leave it on overnight.
  3. Next day grind the red chillies and mustard in a mixer and mix into the cranberries. Mix well and leave it for three days or until the cranberries are soft. Store in a dry and clean glass container with a tight lid. Stays fresh in the refrigerator for few months.
Serve with rice. Goes very well with Curd Rice.

  12. Cilantro, I tried this one and it was so good. I wanted to write to you 3 days back itself, but somehow got postponed. My mother in law is here and she likes it too. The only thing I have to do the next time is to increase the quantity of red chillies. Since we don't eat very spicy food, I was hesitating to add more, but after tasting the vadu I felt that the sourness of the cranberries really requires a lot of heat. This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thank you very much. I can't wait to try the other cranberry recipes from your blog.

Wish you a very happy New Year.
