Hi! Just a quick post to tell you I am back from vacation! It feels good to be back, but at the same time a little sad because it was so great for us to be together without the usual interruptions of life.
Well, as I imagined, vacation was rewarding yet challenging. Spending two months with family and friends was fun. We got to visit few places, ate great and slept well. As expected, all's well that ends well. I'm back. Posting to begin again.

I have started to cook after two months so it is all very simple ....just warming up. Paruppu Keerai/ Spinach Dhal is one of my favorite spinach preparations~ My mother’s simple recipe.

Paruppu Keerai/ Spinach Dhal

List of ingredients:
  1. 2 cups chopped spinach
  2. 1/2 cup thuvaram paruppu/thur dhal
  3. ¼ of a tomato
  4. 4 to 5 shallots or 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  5. 2 to 3 pods garlic
  6. salt to taste.

For thallipu/seasoning:

  1. ½ teaspoon mustard
  2. ½ teaspoon ullutham paruppu/urid dhal
  3. 4 to 5 red chillies broken
  4. a pinch asafoetida

  1. Cook the thuvaram paruppu/thur dhal with 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder. Wash, clean and chop the Spinach.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of oil a kadai/pan and add the seasoning in the order listed. Now add the shallots/ onions.
  3. When the shallots turn soft add the garlic and spinach and simmer until the leaves just begin to wilt, about five minutes. When the spinach is cooked, add cooked thuvaram paruppu/thur dhal. Add salt and mix well.

Serve with Rice Or Chappati.
