'Chutney' is the name given to an extremely popular range of sweet, sour or spicy condiments prepared extensively in Indian homes.

They're the perfect partner for a well made meal and add sparkle, the burst of flavor for a not so perfect one! Anything that you can dip or plunge your food into.
There are no rules for combining them with other dishes as long as you personally prefer them. These can add color, and yet very little time to prepare.

Therefore I am giving you one such recipe which has the basic ingredients we usually have at home.
This is a favorite of my father, husband and now my nephew. I decided to name this one “Arjoon Chutney” for the little one.


List of ingredients:
  1. 5 Roma tomatoes
  2. 2 cup chopped onions
  3. 6 green chillies finely chopped
  4. ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  5. ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  6. 1 tsp kadalai mavvu /besan flour
  7. few chopped curry leaves
  8. few chopped cilantro
  9. juice of half a lime
For Seasoning :
  1. 1tsp Mustard
  2. 1 tsp Broken urid dhal /Ullutham paruppu
Procedure:
  1. Blanch the tomatoes (Cook tomatoes in boiling water for few minutes) . When cooked remove the skin and grind them to a paste.
  2. In a kadai or pan heat some oil and add the seasoning. Then add the finely chopped onions, green chillies and curry leaves.
  3. When the onions turn translucent, add the chilli and turmeric powder. Mix well and immediately add the tomatoe paste and bring to a boil.
  4. Mix some water to the besan/ kadalai mavvu to make a paste. Add salt and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes and serve.
    Garnish with Cilantro/ Coriander leaves and add lime juice before serving.
Serve with Idli or Dosai.
TIPS: Use green chillies according to your spice level. I have used Roma tomatoes in the recipe.
